Updates

First we will start with Sam. My parents gave us a bike for him quite a while back (I think it was when we were down for Thanksgiving) but he hasn't had a place to ride it and we've been putting off getting training wheels and a helmet because I knew he would bug me continuously when we did. Well, we finally bit the bullet Saturday night and went and found some training wheels and a Buzz Lightyear helmet.
His first episode of riding his bike didn't last too long because of the limited space in the basement, but he loved it and is so excited to be able to go out for a bike ride with Daddy. Although now it may not be a while because we just got snow again this morning. Another major thing is that our blinds finally arrived!! We have really been looking forward to having our privacy in our bedroom and a darker room for Sam so he can sleep better.
And lastly, only six more weeks until baby girl will be here (or maybe a little sooner if she feels like it)!! Had an appointment last week and my blood pressure was high again, so that combined with my history has led the dr's to decide that twice weekly ultrasounds of the baby will be necessary until delivery. It is just a precaution (and my B/P was fine when they rechecked it after the ultrasound) and everything will most likely be just fine, but they want to make sure just in case. The thing they are a little worried about is the blood flow in the umbilical cord could start to slow down or even reverse completely. If one of these ultrasounds shows that beginning to happen, they would deliver the baby via C-section ASAP. If everything continues to go routinely, then our plan is to do VBAC whenever baby girl decides to come. To explain the above picture, I once again found an awesome deal that I was too excited about not to share. I found these two sweaters and jean jacket today for $1!! I simply could not resist such a steal, so the red sweater and jacket are 3-6 months and the white is 0-3 (only because that was the largest they had). As far as names go, we still haven't settled on any, but we have been talking about it more (yay!). As it stands, I like Amy and Robert likes Rose or Mary.

Wednesday

Kaylie's Birthday

I wanted to do something fun for Kaylie's cake since this will most likely be the last cake I do for a while with the baby coming, so a good friend of mine helped me come up with an idea she had tried for her daughter's second birthday. It is a technique called Colorflow. Basically it is an icing that is fairly runny when you trace/fill in the design and then dries really hard. We thought butterflies would be really pretty and I wanted lots of color, so I did all the girly pastel colors.
I think the pictures definitely upgrade what the cake actually looks like, but it was fun to try and I'm not overly worried because this is my time to practice. If it were for someone else, I probably would have melted down at all the imperfections (things always go wrong for me). But it looks pretty and will taste fantastic. That is what matters most with a cake, right?

It is a two layer strawberry cake with each layer filled with strawberry frosting and between the two layers is chopped fresh strawberries and then iced in vanilla frosting. (When I say frosting, I mean the stuff from the can because Robert hates buttercream icing and we were going for taste)
And lastly, we got two beautiful roses to put at Kaylie's headstone after the party - one for each year. We are looking forward to having both sets of Potters over to help us enjoy the evening remembering the day Kaylie joined the family.

Thursday

Spring May Be Coming

So we are finally on the mend from the sickies. I have to admit, it was a bit of a rough ride for Mommy and Sammy, but we are through it and feeling much better. Despite not feeling quite up to par we enjoyed a visit from Robert's cousin and her family the first half of the week. They came up to check out BYU-Idaho where their twin daughters will be going to nursing school next January. It was alot of fun getting to know some of the relatives from the Skousen side of the family and we were happy to have them stay with us.
Today was pretty low-key with a morning visit to our good friends, the Potter's, house to make some yummy green rice crispy treats and as we drove to and from the homes, I realized it is really beginning to look and feel like spring is coming!! We have been on two bike rides just in our little neighborhood so far and Sam is excited for when we can get him training wheels and a helmet for his bike from Oma and Opa.
Only eight more weeks until our little girl is to make her appearance!!
Robert has started with the busy spring work this week, but it has been very bearable after having every Saturday off for the last three months. Other than that, not much else going on around here - have a great weekend!!

Friday

To Sum Things Up

I think this picture says it all - poor kid! It has been rough on everyone going through our first real episode of prolonged vomiting/diarrhea with Sam. Hope your week has been better than ours and keeping our fingers crossed that no one else gets sick!
